This is one of a series of intaglio prints that began as a simple black & white monotype of a fish in a cracked china cup. I then experimented with more complicated chine colle goldfish, hand painted directly on to acid free tissue paper. It was a prolonged 5 stage process - paint the slash of colours, dry, apply glue to the other side, dry, then add line & tone details. This is a collagraph - drawn as a still life directly on to the plate & then cut into using drypoint tools. Carborundum, grit, gesso & textures are added to give dark tone. Varnish & gels achieve pale areas & highlights. Colour accents can be added by brush.
